11 Reasons Women Attend Retreats

By Pastor Susan Wright

The following comments came from the Retreat 2010 evaluation. These comments are typical of what we see from year-to-year. Since the same ladies are planning this year’s retreat, expect to see the same great results.

• I came because it is the only real way to get to know people.

• I came to hear the speaker.

• Reputation of CNC women’s retreats.

• I always do. So tradition!

• I am refreshed and blessed year after year.

• Time away with the anticipation of growing closer to the LORD.

• Fellowship with fun and friendly ladies (including time with my wonderful cousin).

• Good value for the money.

• Knowing that I personally needed the time away for ME.

• Close, comfortable location.

• Your reason goes here.

50 ladies have the opportunity to attend the women’s retreat at Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center, June 10-12, 2011. There are 25 hotel style rooms in the lodge (double occupancy). Join us as we enjoy a comfortable atmosphere, friendship, and time away to grow in God’s Word and love.

Retreat 2011 Brochures are available on the Secret Sister bookcase in the narthex or contact Pastor Susan and she will email you one (Susan@cnchurch.org).

Women’s Reception at World Focus Weekend Is Better Than Ever: It Has Five New “Things”

Saturday, February 13, 2 pm in Rudat Hall

This year’s world focus weekend for woman is different.

• There is not a formal tea this year.

• You do not need to bring anything except yourself and a friend.

• Come prepared to enjoy an hors d’ oeuvres spread.

• Rob and Mary-Jo Towns will lead us in musical worship.

• Rachel Greenfield is our speaker. She will share with us why she lives and works in Jordan.

7 Minutes by Rachel Greenfiled

My children are determined to make sure I don’t have more than about 7 minutes of personal time per day and I attempt to use those 7 personal minutes taking a shower and changing out of my pajamas (though honestly there are many days that one or both of those don’t happen!).

A few days ago, I took my 7 minutes a few days ago and read an awesome blog post and I LOVED it! It was on a day I had browsed through the aisles of Old Navy, had a Starbucks specialty drink that didn’t cost 1/4 of my paycheck and watched a mom in an SUV pull up to the entrance of Target and drop her three girls off to run in and get an icee. They came out giggling and jumped into their Swagger Waggon (complete with a soccer ball on the gas cap) and I just started feeling sorry for myself… and then started feeling sorry for my kids.

Since I felt like allowing myself to wallow, I began dwelling on all the things they are going to “miss out on” because of the life we have chosen. Superficially- icees, Target, Costco pizza (now one of Noah’s favorites) and soccer leagues. But they will also miss out on grandparents, cousins, church in English, Sunday School… and there are times this makes me really sad.

But then God sent a special reminder through that blog and I realize we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Christmas Voices

Performed by the Children of CNC

Join us for the CNC Christmas Celebration, sponsored by Children’s Ministry, on Saturday, December 11 at 5:00 PM. We are so excited about this event! We will start with a Christmas program, Christmas Voices, by the kindergarten through 5th grade kiddos. After the performance we will share a potluck dinner. Games, fun, and fellowship will round out the evening.

Get out your party hats – we’re having a Christmas Hat Contest! Anyone who would like to make a hat is welcome to enter the contest. There are only two rules: 1) The hat must have a Christmas theme and 2) You must be able to wear the hat. That’s it! Let your imagination run wild. Judging will take place at the end of the Christmas Celebration.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Lori Storey at lori@cnchurch.org or 635-5992.

Women's Walkathon Fundraiser Committee Forming

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, all are invited to attend a breakfast (which will be cooked by Men’s Ministry) and then support the women as they walk at the high school track. All the proceeds from the donation breakfast and walkathon will go to a women’s center in the Middle East.

The Women’s Ministry Team is setting up a committee to make this event happen and happen well. If you’d like to be a part of this team, please contact Susan, 635-5992 x14 or susan@cnchurch.org.

To encourage one another in our walking efforts, we will meet the fourth Saturday of January, February and March at the Mills Middle School track at 8 a.m. We will walk, talk and encourage one another for an hour then we’ll go someplace for a snack. Each month it will be someplace different, like Jamba Juice or Starbucks.

Put these dates on your calendar and call Susan at 635-5992 today to join the walkathon committee.

Women's Regifting Christmas Party

Saturday, December 4 at 2pm

All women are invited to attend the Christmas regifting party on December 4 at 2 pm in Rudat Hall. Bring a plate of hors d’oeuvres.

Also bring one wrapped gift for the regifting exchange. Please do not buy this gift. Instead bring a past gift that you cannot use or some other item that is no longer wanted in your home. Silly, unusual, useless, or elegant are all acceptable gifts. Just don’t buy it.

In addition to snacking well and having fun, Pamela Finney will encourage us with her devotional on regifting. Pamela says, “Regifting—the act of giving to someone a gift one has received but does not want. Well, I have chosen to regift some of things that I have received from God and have welcomed into my life and want to not only keep but also share with others: the gifts of contentment, of forgiveness, of gratitude, of discovery, of servitude, of desire for what really matters, to name a few.” Come on December 4 to receive these gifts, and be ready to learn to do your own “regifting.”

"Becoming a Godly Wife" Group Begins Sunday, November 14 at 9:30 AM

Marriage, like any relationship, takes work to succeed. However, not all work is equal or intuitive. But when a wife works on meeting the seven specific needs of a man, it can lead him to feel deeply loved. “The power of a woman to complete her husband is immense and often controls whether he becomes all God intended him to be” (Gil Stieglitz, Becoming a Godly Wife). The book candidly discusses these needs and offers marriage exercises for the wife to complete. In this class we’ll wrestle with these 7 areas and we’ll pray for each other.

Please sign up and pay for the book ($16) by October 31. If you have a question, contact Sandra Cowell or Susan Wright at 635-5992.

Ladies, do you have one of those unwanted gifts? Bring it to the Women’s Re-gifting Party (formerly known as white elephant exchange.) The party is on Saturday, December 4 at 2 pm in Rudat Hall. We will be exchanging gifts and sharing our potluck hors d’oeuvres. If you have any questions, call Barbie Aberasturi at 635-5992.

Recycling

it’s good for the planet, but…..

it’s even better for the Women’s Ministry Team.

Over the past 6 months your generous donations of old cell phones and empty printer ink cartridges have provided over 80% of the price of a retreat scholarship for one lucky woman at CNC. With your continued generosity we will be able to send several women to retreat who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend.

We can accept the following items for recycling:
Cell phones, Laptop computers, Digital and video cameras, MP3 Players, Inkjet cartridges (no Toner cartridges), GPS devices, Radar Detectors and Electronic book readers.

Thank you so much for remembering us when you are replacing your cell phone or your inkjet print cartridge. Our container sits near the water fountain next to room 8 (the old office). Please recycle whenever you can – we really appreciate your support.
