Alliance Prayer Requests

January 31, 2012

URGENT PRAYER REQUESTS

Indonesia

Pray that the excessive rains in interior Papua will stop. Gardens are flooding in the Baliem valley, in Moni tribal areas, and in other places as well. The Monis have had nearly a year of extremely poor harvests. Many are too weak to plant new gardens. “We thank God that some relief that has been given,” Alliance workers write. Pray that flights will be available to get food supplies to the needy that live in difficult mountainous terrain.

Thailand

Pray for Andrew; his wife, Christine; and their two children who are volunteering with Remember Nhu, an Alliance partner ministry in Thailand that is dedicated to combatting child sex trafficking. Last week, Andrew was hit while on a motorcycle and suffered a broken femur. Recently, he was readmitted to ICU due to low blood oxygen, an increased heart rate, and blood clot in his lung; he is currently receiving a blood thinner. Pray for Andrew’complete healing and for protection from Satan’s attacks. Also, pray for Linda, a volunteer coordinator for the Remember Nhu Family Home, who has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. In some cases, nonsmoker female molecular cells change, causing lung cancer. She is waiting for test results to see if this happened; the will determine the type of treatment. Pray for Linda’s complete healing.

Can You Domesticate God?

By Pastor Bill Gaube

I have a nasty habit of trying to domesticate God. It’s hard to keep him on a leash so he will not get into certain parts of my life. I certainly do have to put a muzzle on him lest he say something embarrassing. He is terrible to walk with because he often wants to go different ways than I do. And teaching him tricks is so hard because he seems more interested in training me.

Let’s face it: God is hard to understand. He created the earth and threw the stars into space. He set in motion laws of the universe we still are trying to figure out. His power is beyond our comprehension and his justice is so pure that we fall before it. We start to boast and explain ourselves and he reveals he knows our inner hearts already.

Maybe we should just bow before this one who explodes with power, wisdom, righteousness and justice. How? By hearing his heart of love. He revealed his love in his son Jesus. Be captured by the truth that “God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son.” Hear Jesus’ heart of love when he cried over Jerusalem saying how oft he would have gathered them as a hen gathers her chicks … but they would not.

True, we can’t fully understand God, but we can know him because he invites us through the cross of his son Jesus Christ. Be humbled that the great God who molded the earth and flung the stars in space, says to you “Come unto me … and I will give you rest.” His great grace, mercy and love motivates him to forgive us. Then Jesus said I will give you life and life more abundant.

At our next meeting, at 2:00 PM February 14, 2012 at the Waffle House, Southeast of Zinfandel and Folsom, we will be discussing True Honor by Dee Henderson. All adults are welcome at our meeting. And you don’t have to read all the book to come and enjoy getting everyones’ impressions. If you would like, have short portions of the book annotated for a oral reading at the meeting.

For the March 13 meeting, we will discuss Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safram Foer. On April 10, we will discuss The Promise of Hope by Edward Grinnan.

Hope to see all our readers at the next meeting! If you have any questions please give me a call at 916-812-5290.

Tis the season for Youth Camps!

By Youth Pastor Bryce Cooley

Middle School Camp – January 27 – 29, the middle schoolers went to Camp Alta in Alta, CA for iFit Winter Camp 2012. Beau, Rhonda and the other youth staff were as excited as are the students. This is the first middle school only winter camp we have ever done at CNC and I am excited to see how God worked through the Camp Alta staff and our leaders to grow our middle school students. Thanks to Beau, Rhonda and youth staff, the majority of students had to pay nothing for camp due to funds raised at the garage sale. If you would like more info about the camp itself that info can be found here.

High School Camp – February 17 – 20 – Our high school students will begoing just passed South Lake Tahoe to Zephyr Point Christian conference grounds. This will be our second year joining up with two other CMA churches to give our high school students a more solid and challenging camp experience. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for our students as we challenge them to be anchored to God’s word and share His love with their friends.

This winter season is going to be a season of rich spiritual blessings for our students. I am so excited for this. The growth I hear about and see in our students is awe inspiring and I can’t wait to see where our students are in even 6 months: leading small groups, leading worship, sharing their faith, serving in their community. These are all things the deGraaf’s and I are trying to foster in our students. We desire that our students would have a heart for the Lord and that heart would spill out into the community through acts of service and Love in Christ’s name. Please pray for our students this month.

Valentines Themed Bake Sale – February 12
High School Wintercamp – February 17 – 20

Alliance Prayer Requests, January 10, 2012

URGENT PRAYER REQUESTS

Indonesia

Pray that 2012 will be the year that God brings peace to Papua. The church breakaway situation continues to sadden and distract Alliance workers. Recently, five people from the breakaway group tore down the logo of a district office. The GKII (C&MA) church had planned a District Conference and elections in early January, but the breakaway group is trying to prevent this. Pray that God will intervene and protect His people.

CREATIVE-ACCESS COUNTRIES

Remember creative-access (CAC) workers around the world. Pray for protection, good health, and opportunities to share the good news. Pray that contacts will be drawn to Jesus. Pray that God will break down strongholds and give courage and boldness to national believers.
