Calling all Step Moms and soon to be Step Moms

MichelleBy Michelle White

I am starting a class on January 24th, to help us become “Smart Stepmoms”. This book will help us to deal with the ups and downs of being a stepmom. The study will be 14 weeks long. We will meet at 9:30am on Sundays. Room to be determined. The author of “Smart Stepmoms,” also wrote “Smart Stepfamilies”. His co author for our book is Laura Petherbridge. If you are interested in this class please let me know, so I can order enough books for our class.  You can contact me at the church office, 635-5992.

The 1…2…3…4's of my ministry at CNC

By Susan Wright (635-5992, Susan@cnchurch.org)

susan September 1, 2009 started a new era in my life: a full-time career at CNC. I’ve had only two other full-time jobs (each lasted less than two years) and a few part-time jobs. The oddest one was as a nighttime receptionist at a funeral home. Mainly, I’ve been a stay-at-home mom and wife, and homeschooling mom.

My new “career” is more than a career though. It is also my ministry and passion. Let me explain what I’m involved in at CNC.

We're having fun in Children's Ministry!

By Lori Story, Children’s Ministry Director

Lori In my first two months as the Children’s Ministry Director, I have started to settle in to my new role.  It’s been a challenge – in a good way!  I have enjoyed getting to know a lot of the kids and am looking forward to watching them grow, both taller and in their walk with the Lord.

If your child(ren) attend Kid’s Church, you have no doubt heard about KC Bucks (KC = Kid’s Church).  I got this idea from my brother, a Children’s Pastor in West Virginia.  It’s a reward system that immediately recognizes good behavior and has immediate consequences for not so good behavior.>

The kids get five KC Bucks for coming to Kid’s Church and another five for memorizing their Bible verse.  There are ways they can earn extras, like answering questions correctly, helping set-up or clean-up, or bringing a friend to church.  They can have KC Bucks taken away for talking out of turn.

On the first Sunday of the month, I open the KC General Store.  The kids get to purchase one item and have the option of contributing to the KC Party Fund.  The KC General store was open for the first time on October 4 and the kids contributed 203 KC Bucks!  When the Party Fund reaches 500 KC Bucks, they will have – you guessed it – a party!  They will be choosing the type of party to have.  So far, pizza and ice cream are the most popular ideas.  Although I did get a suggestion for a pizza/cupcake/ice cream/pool party!

If you are interested in teaching or helping in Sunday School or Children’s Church during the Advent season (November 15 through December 27) please let me know.   You can email me at lori@cnchurch.org or call me at 363-1188.
