11 Reasons Women Attend Retreats

By Pastor Susan Wright

The following comments came from the Retreat 2010 evaluation. These comments are typical of what we see from year-to-year. Since the same ladies are planning this year’s retreat, expect to see the same great results.

• I came because it is the only real way to get to know people.

• I came to hear the speaker.

• Reputation of CNC women’s retreats.

• I always do. So tradition!

• I am refreshed and blessed year after year.

• Time away with the anticipation of growing closer to the LORD.

• Fellowship with fun and friendly ladies (including time with my wonderful cousin).

• Good value for the money.

• Knowing that I personally needed the time away for ME.

• Close, comfortable location.

• Your reason goes here.

50 ladies have the opportunity to attend the women’s retreat at Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center, June 10-12, 2011. There are 25 hotel style rooms in the lodge (double occupancy). Join us as we enjoy a comfortable atmosphere, friendship, and time away to grow in God’s Word and love.

Retreat 2011 Brochures are available on the Secret Sister bookcase in the narthex or contact Pastor Susan and she will email you one (Susan@cnchurch.org).

Are you able to help with the carnival?

Areas of needed assistance…

Chronic Pain & Illness Small Group to read, "Why Can't I Make People Understand?"

By Pastor Susan Wright

Tuesday, April 12, this small group will start the 9-week class. This coed group will meet at CNC at 1:30 for 90 minutes.

The book is $12.00. I found a good deal on the books and currently they are $2 off the listed price. Each chapter includes review, reflection questions, applicable Scriptures, and a prayer.

Lisa Copen, the author and founder/director of Rest Ministries restministries.org, has lived with rheumatoid arthritis for 18 years. Later Copen found out she also has fibromyalgia. Copen understands the wide-range of thoughts and feelings that can plague the emotional and spiritual aspects of a person. These thoughts and feelings can be made worse by the comments or lack of understanding of others – if we let them.

Copen says,

“This book isn’t about the many people who just don’t “get it” and how to change them. You and I both know it’s impossible for our loved ones to step inside our skin and feel the debilitating pain and tornado of emotions . . . This book’s purpose is to examine our own desires and then transform them so we can move forward in our spiritual growth instead of withering under the burden of unmet expectations.”

RSVP today. Sign up in Rudat Hall, indicate your intention to attend on your communication slip or contact Susan at 635-5992 or susan@cnchurch.org.

Women's Retreat – second weekend in June

June 11-13, 2010ji7aP4

Retreat Theme

We all love a good story to . . . cheer on the heroine, boo the villain, cry at the tender moments and laugh at the comic ones.

Our life is a story too. While God is the author of our story sometimes we mess it up and take detours He never meant for us to take.

What does your life most resemble? Fairytale? Quest? Melodrama? Science Fiction? Or a soap opera? Would you like to change genres?

What part do you play in your story? Heroine? Villain? Fool? Princess? Mime? Narrator?

What part do you want to play?

At this year’s Retreat, our speaker, Jenny Arnez will lead us in seeking the heart of God as we find and explore our own true story. This needn’t be a scary time, but one of restoration, joy, and wonder. Remember that our God delights in us. Read Zephaniah 3:17 and know that you are cherished, dear sister and friend.

Take a 40-Day Spiritual Journey

7ZxgRNBy Pamela Finney

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I here? What does God want me to do with my life, and how do I find out what He wants me to do?” All of us have wondered about our purpose on Earth, and that’s exactly what Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth am I Here For?, explores. We are guided through his message through the program called, 40 Days of Purpose. This class will be held on Tuesdays, starting March 2, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, at the home of Debora Sharpless. Pamela Finney will be the facilitator. We will discover and discuss such topics as:

► what drives your life

► developing your friendship with God

► cultivating community

► how we grow

► thinking like a servant, and

► sharing your life message

Sign-ups for the class are being taken in Rudat Hall Sunday mornings between and after services. If you have any questions, you can contact Pamela Finney at 642-2339 or pfflyer1005@yahoo.com or contact Debora Sharpless at 858-1770. Whether you are just starting out in your Christian journey or are a “seasoned saint,” this study can certainly help you along in your growth and service to God.

For everything, absolutely everything above and below, visible and invisible,…everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him. Colossians 1:16 (Msg)
