Who else wants to help Woman's Retreat attendees?

By Pastor Susan Wright

Turn the calendar 3 pages forward and it will be time for women’s retreat, June 11-13. The cost for this 2 nights, 3 days and 6 meals event (at Zephyr Point) is only $165.00. This is a great deal. However times are hard. Some ladies will not be able to attend because of a lack of money.

4 Ways You Can Help . . .

  1. Donate. Donate money to women’s ministry earmarked as “retreat scholarship.”
  2. E-cycle. Drop all your used inkjet cartridges, old cell phones and other techy toys in the plastic tub outside of Pastor Jeff’s office. We don’t make a lot of money from e-cycling, but usually enough to offer a scholarship or two.
  3. Bake sales. Bake and/or buy goodies from the 2 bake sales women’s ministry will sponsor on Sunday, March 7th and May 2nd.
  4. Pray. Lastly and most importantly, pray. Pray that God will supply the money in a way that the retreat women will KNOW that this money came from God. This knowledge increases the woman’s faith and receptability to God’s work.

All deposits ($82.50) are due Wednesday, March 10. Final payment is due Sunday, May 16.

Thank you in advance for your help. May you be blessed as you have blessed others.

Women's Retreat – second weekend in June

June 11-13, 2010ji7aP4

Retreat Theme

We all love a good story to . . . cheer on the heroine, boo the villain, cry at the tender moments and laugh at the comic ones.

Our life is a story too. While God is the author of our story sometimes we mess it up and take detours He never meant for us to take.

What does your life most resemble? Fairytale? Quest? Melodrama? Science Fiction? Or a soap opera? Would you like to change genres?

What part do you play in your story? Heroine? Villain? Fool? Princess? Mime? Narrator?

What part do you want to play?

At this year’s Retreat, our speaker, Jenny Arnez will lead us in seeking the heart of God as we find and explore our own true story. This needn’t be a scary time, but one of restoration, joy, and wonder. Remember that our God delights in us. Read Zephaniah 3:17 and know that you are cherished, dear sister and friend.

College Group: Silly and Sacred

college camp 1By Philip Cooley

I am so excited and blown away to think that this January CNC’s College group will have been meeting every Sunday for two and a half years. The last couple of years have been an immense blessing to Katherine and me as we have been able to participate in the lives of some amazing young adults during a key time in their lives when they are trying to figure out where they fit in the world. For many of them this time is a period of asking tough questions about their faith and values. Many of our members are asking how and if Christ has the answers for the issues and questions that are central to who they are and who they will be. My goal has always been to be a person in their lives who can point them in the right direction, show them that Christ is in fact relevant to all of the 21st century issues that they are confronted with and that His call to obedience is intended to ensure that we receive all of the blessings God has for us. As a couple it has been our goal to show Christ’s love to each member of the group, so in addition to time spent studying the Word, we eat a lot of food and have as much silly fun as we can cram into our three hour gatherings including: ice blocking, trips to the state fair, front lawn Twister competitions, bocce ball and an Ugly Christmas sweater contest.

The simple fact that we have continued to meet for more than two years now is testament to the fact that God is meeting a need in the group. Not only have we survived but we have grown. Over that period of time we have seen steady growth in the group’s size. Even as some folks have moved on, the group has continued to slowly increase in number so much so that the location is moving from Katherine and my house to my parents’ home in order to better serve the size of the group.

January also marks our second annual Winter Retreat which is experiencing growth of its own as nearly 20 members of the group will be joining us in Tahoe for a weekend of fellowship and a break from the routine. Folks are coming for many different reasons: snow, friends, a weekend in Tahoe, shopping, time with God. My prayer, and I would ask for yours as well, is that regardless of the reason each individual has decided to go, God will make himself powerfully real to each of them. Please also pray for PC Walker, College Pastor at First Covenant Church and our guest speaker for the weekend, that God might use him to convict the hearts and minds of all who are there.

Like our regular Sunday night gatherings, we are going to have a blast at Winter Retreat. I will be praying that God’s hand on our weekend will be what is talked about when we get back.

Marriage Conference

By Christy Rovenstine

Andy and I have attended or volunteered at the Weekend to Remember Conference six times.  Each time God worked in our lives in amazing ways.  The speakers were passionate, encouraging and often humorous.  The conference provided well balanced breaks that allowed us to talk through the material and spend undistracted time together.  I always come away with a greater understanding of God’s design for marriage and practical ways for us to continue growing in the Lord as a couple.

This year’s Sacramento conference is scheduled for November 20-22 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.   The conference runs from Friday night through Sunday afternoon.  At the conference you will:

  • Explore God’s purpose for bringing you together in the first place
  • Understand the role hardship plays in making every marriage stronger
  • Learn to recognize hidden strengths of your marriage that disguise themselves as obstacles
  • Develop and exciting outlook for your life together

From engaged couples to empty nesters, it’s never too early or too late to make your marriage flourish.  Please prayerfully consider making this valuable investment in your relationship this fall. Family Life even offers a money back guarantee.

When you register by Wednesday, November 18 you can receive the discounted group rate of $158 per a couple.  Use group name “Rovenstine” to register.  The registration fee includes conference materials.  Food, optional lodging, and parking are additional costs. If you are interested in getting out of town, there will also be conferences in Monterey and San Diego this fall. You can register online at FamilyLife.com/Weekend or phone 1-800-358-6329.

Look for our display in the narthex on Sunday for more information or call us at 967-6031.
