From Pastor Phil

The year has only just begun, and we are already off to a fast start. 2020 is shaping up to be a great year of outreach for Cordova Neighborhood Church.

On Saturday, February 29, Jenny Arnez and I will be holding a seminar on discipleship. As believers, nothing brings us greater joy than seeing and hearing of others coming to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. But for many the process of evangelism (telling people the good news about Jesus) and discipleship (showing people how to live like Jesus) makes us uncomfortable. We want to do it, but we fear we aren’t equipped to do it well. Jenny and I don’t want people living in that uncomfortable position. We believe scripture is clear that all are called to be involved in the process of evangelism and discipleship and we want to help equip Cordova Neighborhood Church with the knowledge and tools to do so confidently. I invite you to join us on February 29 from 10am-4pm, including lunch, as we explore how to lead others to Christ and into Christlikeness well.

I am also excited to say that we will in fact be going back to the Alliance mission base in Mexicali, Mexico this year. We had not planned on going to the base this year as it was already booked the week our school district is on spring break. Due to a cancelation and the enthusiasm and willingness of Jon Robertson, we will be taking a team to serve and teach the week of April 4-11. If you are interested in going on the trip be sure to speak with Jon Robertson and/or put your name on the sign-up sheet.

Then in July we are going to have Vacation Bible School! It’s been several years since we last had VBS but thanks to the burden God put on Cynthia Harmer’s heart we will again spend a summer week sharing the Gospel in fun and exciting ways with the children of our church and the neighborhood. I am most excited at the fact that this will be an evening VBS. This means that those who would otherwise be unable to send their kids or volunteer because of daytime work obligations will be able to participate.

We’re only a month into the new year and we already have these three significant outreach ministries planned. I am excited to see how God uses these ministries to grow His kingdom. There will be many ways to take part in these endeavors. I invite you to be praying for these ministries as they are developed and executed and ask God how He is inviting you to participate.
